I purchased an 100-yr old home in downtown Grand Rapids last summer and along with it came some really tepid disclosures on what they described as small puddling in the basement to my experience of full on water in the basement. The basement is divided into three uneven parts and is a field stone rock basement with a partial crawl space - so far crawl space seems okay. I have a drain and I have to "push" the water to the drain because the floors are all uneven. Previous owners dry-locked the basement 90%. It appears the water comes from ground swell - it is sometimes silty. My furnace and hot water heater are in the basement. I do not use it as liveable space but there is a makeshift 3rd bathroom down there (toilet, tub, laundry sinks and shower - which is where the drain is). I am wondering if there is a better solution to this water issue. The spring melt was quite bad in particular.

Every time it rains, we get a little (about a pint) of dark stained oderless water that comes up through the floor near the center of the house from under an interior wall. The house was built around 1977 and is a split level. This is the first summer we noticed it. There is currently no sump pit or drainage system that I know of in the house.
