Our unfinished basement always has water when it rains. The previous owner did not disclose this when we bought in 2000. We have 2 sump pumps that can't keep up with with rain or wet soil outside. We have a "beaver system" so no drain tile. We live on a lake and have a soft yard. We don't think a basement should have been built. When there isn't water, the basement is always damp. If we take something from our home, cookies to church for an example, and put them in a plastic bag, I can smell the bag and the mold. It is in everything we own and we don't think it is safe. Our basement is moist even when there isn't standing water. We want work done in our house this summer,but we want a dry basement before we start.

I bought my house last fall and learned this spring that one corner of the basement gets water seeping into it through the concrete walls. It's worse in the corner of the house where the concrete front porch bumps right up to the concrete portion of the basement wall.
